Huoi Quang hydropower project designed by EVNPECC1 receives FIDIC award

Huoi Quang hydropower project in which EVNPECC1 plays the role of consultant (Design consultant and Supervision consultant) has been received the FIDIC Award of Merit in the 2018 International Infractructure Conference in Berlin – Germany on Monday evening 10th September 2018.

FIDIC Awards are held every year for Outstanding Project of the Year Award that contributing to world economies and communities to develop for a higher Quality of Life. Award shortlist are opened to firms/companies that have provided main engineering and related services on projects of all types and all sizes. FIDIC currently collects representatives from more than 100 countries (each has only 1 member representative). In 2018, Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association sent 6 projects to participate in the award. In particular, the project of Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (Huoi Quang Hydropower Project), the Members of VECAS honored FIDIC’s 22 awards, posted on FIDIC’s website (

Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung Chairman of Management Board cum General Director – and Mr. Vu Van Dien, Project Manager received the FIDIC Awards.

  • Project with innovation, quality and professional excellence.
  • Project having principles of transparency and integrity. FIMS and other Integrity Management Systems will be considered too.
  • Project with sustainability and deeply respect for environment.

Huoi Quang powerhouse

Huoi Quang hydropower project,  installed capacity of 520MW, is the 3rd project having the underground powerhouse in Vietnam. Nevertheless, the project is the 1st underground powerhouse that designed by local consultant. Its machine hall is larger than that of Hoa Binh, Ialy hydropower projects which were designed by Soviet Uninion ‘s company). Both upstream and downstream surge shafts of Huoi Quang are underground. The underground typed powerhouse is located on the right bank consisting of 2 units, capacity of 260MW for each. Transformer hall and turbine inlet disc are arranged at the upstream, 51m far from the axis of the powerhouse. The transformer hall is 19.8 m wide and 30.6m high, to be 93m long at the main hall, valve tunnel bottom is at El. 175m. The underground machine hall including erection floor is 81m long, 20.0m wide, and 55.75m high for the main excavation block. The downstream surge shaft is designed to be an uniformed block to connect with 2 discharge tunnels from the draft tube to valve tower and merge to 1 discharge tunnel from the valve tower to the powerhouse outlet. The dimension of surge shaft is 12.5m wide, 36.5m long from EL.163.45m to 226m and 77.25 high as it running through the basalt mass of IIB layer.

Vietnam has been the only country in ASEAN for many years has the project received the award, and has been selected strictly through several rounds and from lots of projects nominated by the member countries.
