According to Decision No. 384/QĐ-EVN, the Ialy Extension HPP invested by EVN, is built 400m away from the current location of the operating Ialy HPP (the current operation plant has its capacity of 720MW).
Accordingly, EVN has approved the Technical Design and Cost Estimates for Construction of the Ialy Extension HPP with some main contents as follows:
Project’s grade
- Civil works: 1st grade according to Vietnamese norm: QCVN 04-05:2012/BNNPTNT.
- Temporary work: 2nd grade according to Vietnamese norm: QCVN 04-05:2012/ BNNPTNT.
Location of construction
At the territory of Ya Tăng commune, Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province and Ia Mo Nong, Ia Kreng communes, Ialy town, Chu Pah district, Gia Lai province.
Contractor who establishes the Technical Design and Cost Estimates for Construction:
- Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (PECC1).
Project Manager: Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Chỉnh – Deputy General Director of PECC1.
Also according to the decision, Ialy Extension HPP shall ensure to maintain the existing components of the existing Ialy HPP; designing and constructing the new waterway and powerhouse on the left side of the existing structure, independently from components of the existing Ialy HPP, including following main components such as: inlet leading to the intake, intake, headrace tunnel, surge tank, Penstock, powerhouse, Tailrace at D/S of the powerhouse and connectoig System of the power plant to the National Power System etc.,
Capacity expansion of the Ialy HPP has been calculated according to a number of principles: Concentrating the amount of water used in the dry season for power generation during peak hours; The units of the extended capacity have similar generated head as the ones of the existing units without reducing water usage efficiency for power generation. The purpose of expanding the installed capacity of the Ialy HPP includes:
+ Increasing the capacity to mobilize capacity for the load in the South, particularly during peak hours. Contributing to improve working mode of the Power system (increasing the power source and peak coverage power of the load diagram, increasing operational flexibility, increasing factors of reliability, safety ...), thereby contributing to reduce production cost of the system;
+ Making maximum capacity of the flow by limiting the annual excess discharge, increasing the annual average power output value by about 223.60 million kWh/annum, contributing to reduce annual fuel costs, reducing CO2 emissions and reducing dependence on fossil fuels;
+ Reducing operational intensity of existing units, thereby prolonging equipment lifetime, saving maintenance and repair costs.
It is expected that the Ialy Extension HPP shall be commenced in the second quarter of 2021; and generated Unit 1 (180MW) in Quarter II/2024, Unit 2 (180MW) in Quarter III/2024 and completion of the project by December 2024.
