Attendances to the Seminar are Ms Grete Løchen – Norwegian Ambassador designate in Vietnam, Mr. Harald Nævdal–Commercial Counsellor of Norwegian Royal Embassy, Mr Pham Nguyen Hung – Chairman cum General Director of EVN PECC1 and representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and participants from the EVN and its subsidiaries, independent power plant owners, construction companies, private investors from Vietnam and Laos, suppliers and consultants and other stakeholders.
Ms Grete Løchen – Norwegian Ambassador
Addressing at the seminar, Ms. Grete Løchen – Norwegian Ambassador designate in Vietnam said from the 2015 Paris UN Climate Change conference, the world has come up with its challenges through the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals, and Norway expect to contribute with deliveries to make our future development motr sustainable. The 3 goals on “Climate Actions”, “Life under Water” and “Life on Land” set big challenge to reduce half of CO2 emission from economic development which is the key to gain successfully all the goals that constitute the UN’s 2030Agenda. On this background, the designate Ambassador was very happy to witness the recent positive development of the legal framework to support the Vietnamese solar power market. She hoped that Norwegian companies present in the seminar may find cooperation opportunities with local partners to develop solar power projects in Vietnam.
Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung, Chairman cum General Director of EVNPECC1 said, in recent years, Vietnam has been evaluated as one of the potential countries for solar development. Solar power projects have been defined as the optimum investment selection by Vietnamese Government and relevant Ministries, agents to meet the target of sustainable development. The Government has set out the target of pushing Solar power to be one of essential renewable energy sources. In PECC1 general development orientation, policy, renewable energies, particularly solar energy have been received special attention to and given priority for development in the coming time. Presently, PECC1, step by step involves in solar power sector in our country as the Consultant for EPC, pre-Feasbility Study, Master Plan Supplement report, elaboration of FS report, preparation of EPC Bidding Document, Supervision Consultant, Project Management, Review of Feasbility Study report, etc.
Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung, Chairman cum General Director of EVNPECC1
At the seminar, Ms. Ngo Thi To Nhien, a senior energy specialist of the World Bank presented an overview of Vietnam’s solar energy. She affirmed that the solar energy development potential in Vietnam is quite huge. The solar energy distributes widely with the average radiation at 4-5 kWh/m2/day at almost Centre region and Southern of the country which equivalents to developed solar energy markets in the region such as China, Thailand, Philippines as well as in the world like Spain, and Italia. The Vietnamese Government has realized this potential and set out the target of pushing up electrical power production from renewable energy including solar energy. The installed capacity of solar energy shall soar from 7 MW (in mid 2016) to 850MW in 2020, and 4,000MW in 2025 and 12,000GW in 2030. To this end, the Governmental Prime Minister issued Decision No. 11/2017/QD-TTg to support for developing solar power projects in Vietnam. From which, enterprises may catch up attractive investment opportunities. Project developers, managers, operators, suppliers, engineers and consultants shall become essential resources contributing in the solar powermarket growth in Vietnam.
And then, Mr. Are Gløersen – Director Asia, Ocean Sun introduced floating solar power technology. Ocean Sun has successfully tested the floating solar energy system in abroad near Bergen, Norway since April 2017. The new technology permits to develop utility scale solar energy on the ocean, lake and reservoir. The Ocean Sun’s patented solution consists of modified silicon solar modules installed on large floating structures. All system components consist of environment-friendly materials with a minimal CO2 footprint.
Mr. Erik Berger, Asia Sales Manager of Multiconsult was the next speaker introducing solar energy services, storage and smart energy. Multiconsult is one of leading firms on floating solar energy with experience on studying market/technology, system design, hybrid services and procurement for project.
Mr. Alfredo, Petrus Jakab – Project Manager, DNV GL Singapore had a speech on the development growth and near future of floating solar power technology. He also spoke on the future of power grid – energy storage in the Asia – Pacific, storage, and other DNV GL’s services.
Also at the seminar, Mr. Andreas Balzer introduced Scatec Solar Corporation. This is the integrated independent solar power producer, delivering affordable, rapidly deployable and sustainable source of clean energy worldwide. Presently, the company is producing electricity from 357MW of solar power plants in the Czech Republic, South Africa, Rwanda, Honduras and Jordan and another 1,057 MW under construction. With an established global presence, the company is growing briskly with a project backlog and pipeline of about 4.5 GW under development in the Americas, Africas, Asia and the Middle East.
Mr. Inge Stølen, Senior Investment Manager of Renewable Energy of Norfund had introduced briefly on Norfund as well as basic Norfund’s strategy on the renewable energy. He said clean energy is the largest Norfund’a business field and accounts half of portfolio. Approximately 250MWp solar energy has been built in cooperation with Scatec Solar, and expected to grow more in the time to come.
The seminar seemed to be exciting with a lot of questions-answers from the guests and companies’ representatives for discussion on the present advanced solar technology solutions.
Closing the seminar, Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung, on behalf of EVNPECC1 expressed his sincere thankfulness to all distinguished guests and media agents attending the seminar, and hoped after the seminar, enterprises, companies may attain a chance to together connect, exchange, share experience and establish long-term cooperation with the aim to realize solar power projects in Vietnam, heading to an economy with green and sustainable growth.
