Upstream of Song Bung 5 Hydropower Plant
Favorable weather and flexible management:
One among the important factors leading to this result is favorable weather. Although rainfall is not much, the even distribution throughout the months and the absence of major floods in the flood season have created ideal conditions for the power generation. Simultaneously, the power plant has skillfully managed the reservoir, ensuring the water head always to be at the highest level to optimize the power output.
High-performance thanks to strict management:
Song Bung 5 HPP has set up strict procedures for directing staff to collect and analyze hydrological data, and training operators to properly follow reservoir operating procedures and inter-reservoir procedures. This includes accurately calculating radial gate opening in case of overflow, ensuring safety and highest performance during operation.
Thoroughly treatment of water head loss problem:
Song Bung 5 HPP has thoroughly resolved the problem of water head loss at the intake. This helped the plant exceed its rated capacity at certain times of abundant water, bringing significant performance (Max 29.2/28.5MW per unit).
Flexible and creative procedure:
Variation in trash discharging process at the intake during flood season without affecting power generation capacity is a noticeable breakthrough. Song Bung 5 HPP has presented its flexibility and creativity in testing and adjusting the procedure to ensure steady and efficiency operation of the plant.
Effective information management and maintenance:
Frequently updating and using software programs for operational data management and technical management in computers have helped the Plant optimizing the power generation. Periodic maintenance of equipment is also paid attention to, minimizing equipment downtime for repairs and ensuring the highest availability factor.
With this result, Song Bung 5 HPP has proven that focusing on performance and creativity not only brings positive results in challenging times but also creates many opportunities in the future. With the spirit of continuous innovation, the Plant marks an important milestone in building a sustainable and developed energy future, ensuring clean energy sources to meet the growing demand for power. This result is beyond expectations in the context that 2023 is considered a difficult period due to the impacts of El Nilo when challenges in energy supply and demand are the main causes for the concerns about global energy stability.
