Participating the seminar, from PECC1 side, there were Mr. Nguyen Huu Chinh – General Director, Board of Directors and engineers and experts of the Company. On the MC - Bauchemie side, there was the General Director of the Group and technical experts (from Germany and Vietnam). Attending the seminar were also distinguished guests including Mr. Pham Nguyen Hung - Deputy Director, Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, Ministry of Industry and Trade; and others from Departments of Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority, Departments from Vietnam Electricity, Power Generation Corporations (GENCO); Hydropower Plants; Management Boards; Associations; Universities, Institutes and nearly 100 domestic and foreign experts.
Ông Nguyễn Hữu Chỉnh - Tổng Giám đốc PECC1 phát biểu khai mạc Hội thảo
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Huu Chinh - General Director of PECC1 said: In the context of Vietnam's power system in recent years, a lot of renewable energy sources have been put into operation, creating significant challenges in the system operation (due to their unstable characteristics), then the Hydropower with its possibility to cover the peak of the load diagram as well as support frequency control in the fastest way is still one of the generation sources that play an important role in the Vietnamese power system.
By the end of 2021, the total installed capacity of the power system in Vietnam reached 76,620 MW, of which hydropower alone accounted for 28.5%. The majority of power plants have been operating for more than 10 years or longer. Therefore, there are signs of deterioration, that is the reason why the requirement for the maintenance and repair of the works becomes more and more urgent.
Along with PECC1’s experience in design consulting, material testing as well as the design of mixing RCC and CVC concrete types at hydropower and irrigation projects in Vietnam and in the region, PECC1’s Design and Testing engineers cooperated with MC- Bauchemie’s experts to research to come up with advanced solutions as well as the latest technology for waterproofing, maintenance, repairing concrete items, weak soil foundation for power plants in the period of operation and repair.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Chinh - General Director of PECC1 made a speech to open the Seminar
Sourcing from the desire to look for the long-term cooperation opportunities, MC - Bauchemie Group has cooperated with EVNPECC1 to co-organize the Seminar “Advanced Solutions for Waterproofing and Repairing for Energy and Hydraulic Industry", with the aim to discuss and introduce the advanced solutions as well as the latest technology in the field of waterproofing, repairing concrete items, weak ground for power plants in the operation stage to ensure safety, improve operation efficiency and increase the project life.
Mr. Zur Muehlen Wolf Ekkehard - General Director of MC-Bauchemie spoke at the Seminar
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Zur Muehlen Wolf Ekkehard - General Director of MC-Bauchemie Group said: MC - Bauchemie Group which has its headquarter in Bottrop (Germany) was established in 1961. So far, it has over 2500 employees with more than 60 years of experience specializing in technology products, admixtures, construction chemicals and providing advanced waterproofing solutions have completely solved the problems of seepage at tunnels, hydropower in more than 40 countries around the world. Being present at the seminar, MC-Bauchemie Group headed for a long-term commitment in Vietnam and certainly wishes to address the very specific needs of its partners and customers in the applications that MC has delivered very successfully globally.
Mr. Le Quang Huy – Head of Technical and International Department, PECC1 presented the presentation
At the Seminar, Mr. Le Quang Huy – Head of Technical and International Department, PECC1 presented the presentation on “A number of cracks and seepage patterns are commonly found in hydro concrete structures and rock base” with issues such as:
- A number of crack and seepage patterns in concrete and their impact on gravity dam safety;
- A number of cracks and seepage at the spillway;
- A number of cracks may be found in headrace tunnels and powerhouses;
- Seepage in the rock base
Mr. Thengil Sumesh Sreedhar, MC– Bauchemie’s expert introduced the advanced solutions of the Group at the Seminar
Next, MC - Bauchemie's leading technical expert, Mr. Thengil Sumesh Sreedhar presented the presentation on “Advanced solutions for waterproofing and repairing for energy and hydraulic industry”.
Testing introduction of sample products at the Seminar hall conducted by MC – Bauchemie’s expert
The Seminar was then continued with lively discussions, Q&A between MC - Bauchemie and the guests, along with testing that took place right at the Seminar hall and at the yard of PECC1 headquarter. The testing was jointly performed by PECC1’s engineers in design and testing departments, centers in collaboration with MC – Bauchemie’s experts via models of solutions for waterproofing and repairing for common issues at dams in Vietnam as well as countries around the world, in order to completely solve the problem of seepage in concrete dams, soft ground with the use of MC-Injekt 2700/ MC-Injekt 2700L (High strength PU pure resin (~70MPa) , forming confined foam (up to about 20MPa) if encountering water; The setting time of the resin (from about 15 seconds to 30 minutes) can be adjusted according to site conditions. The testing was carried out in detail using the following models:
1. Waterproofing treatment through thermal joint (expansion joint/J-joint);
2. Waterproofing treatment through gallery, foundation, abutment.
Mr. Suemeh, Representative of MC - Bauchemie continued to perform the waterproofing model testing and J-joint treatment
The Seminar ended successfully and was highly appreciated and commented by the participants on technology, close to the site conditions at hydropower and irrigation dams in Vietnam, and promises to open a new direction in waterproofing treatment as well as energy and hydraulic works support in order to improve operational efficiency and significantly increase the project lifetime.
