On the 23rd /12/2012, in Son La, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) organized the Inauguration Ceremony of Son La Hydropower project. PECC1 is the main design consultant of the project.

Son La HPP, installed capacity of 2.400 MW (comprising of 6 units, 400MW for each unit) is the second cascade on Da river (followed the Lai Chau HPP and is the upper cascade of Hoa Binh HPP. The civil work components of the project locate at the territory of It Ong commune, Muong La district, Son La province. Its reservoir belongs to various communes, districts of Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces. Main objectives of the project are power generation to the National Grid with average annual output of power energy of 10.246 billions kWh; flood control in wet season, water supply in dry season for the Tokin delta and contribution for social economic development at the North West region.

The Son La HPP includes of 3 component project :
+ Project for construction of Son La HPP invested by EVN (main components include: dam, spillway, waterway, powerhouse, transmission system connecting to the National Grid );
+ Project for resettlement, replacement invested by People Committees of Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau provinces;
+ Project for flood- passing traffic works invested by the Ministry of Transport

+ Annual energy output: 10.246 billion kWh (of which 1.267 billion kWh has been increased for Hoa Binh HPP)
+ Structure of gravity concrete dam: 138.1m high, crest length: 961.6m, the structure has 12 Low level outlets, 6 spillway bays. Open- typed- powerhouse, located following the dam.
+ Bill of quantity of rock, soil excavation and embankment: 14.673 million m3
+ Concrete volumes at all types: 4.920 million m3, of which 2.238 million m3 are conventional vibration concrete (CVC) and 2.682 million m3 rolled compaction concrete (RCC).
+ Consolidation grout and curtain grouting: 109,400 md
+ Quantity of equipment: 72,070 tons all types.
- Schedule: According to Resolution of the National Assembly, the 1st unit generated in 2012, completing the whole power plant by 2015; in reality, the 1stunit generated at the end of 2010, and project completion in 2012.
